She retired as deputy director (museum collections ) from National Crafts Museum M/O Textiles GOI 2012.Currently she works on short term Professional (Museums) assignments as an expert resource person. She is well conversant with various aspects Indian art ,culture ,textiles and crafts.
Post retirement Prof Gupta was appointed as founder director of the Mekong Ganga Commission Textile Museum Siem Reap , Cambodia. Between 2013-2017 she had set up and ran the six countries textiles museum with the team .
Earlier 2002-2004 as Professor Museology taught several courses in museology at National Museum Institute ,New Delhi
During a posting at NIFT (1999-2002) she was consultant for the panorama for the project GIS based Handicraft data base and information System , developed by CRTD IIT Delhi .
Prof Gupta was academic visitor to Victoria and Albert Museum in the year 1990,where she studied and documented prestigious zardozi collections .
Prof Gupta has authored three internationally acclaimed monographs /catalogue namely Zardozi, the Glittering Gold Embroidery, Indian Folk and Tribal Paintings , Celebrating the Crafts of India(2010).Her other publications include chapters in 6 books on textiles; museology and fashion, about 60 papers in reputed journals, newspapers, magazines.
